ducks

Our ladies live a life of luxury.

Raised outside (with protection from predators and the opportunity to seek shelter), our ducks have ample access to swimming and foraging. In nice-weather times they get free range of the entire farm, helping with pest control, weed management, and fertilization of the soil. Make no mistake! Ducks are messy and loud, and our ladies are no exception. As with our pigs, we want them to live their best possible lives and they play an invaluable role on our farm. In addition to their diet of certified-organic feed, they love cleaning up our leftover crops (cabbage and spinach are some of their favorites).

Why duck eggs?

Duck eggs are nutrient-packed, containing more omega-3 fatty acids, iron, potassium, calcium, vitamins, minerals, and protein (compared to chicken eggs). They have a thicker shell, which allows them a longer shelf life.  Their larger yolks and fuller flavor lends well to baking, resulting in moister and richer end products. Duck eggs are more calorically dense than chicken eggs, so fewer eggs go further.

What to do with duck eggs?

We get this question all the time (believe it or not).  Duck eggs are essentially larger chicken eggs, so use them in all the same ways. Just be prepared for a fuller-flavored more nutrient-dense egg.
